L.N.E.R. Class C1 4-4-2 No. 3279 (B.R. 62808) at Walton Peterborough on 6th August 1938. This engine is photographed in its final 2 cylinder form, unique in having outside Walscharts valve gear. The coal in the tender is in bags, probably to measure fuel consumption as the engine was not released to traffic until June 1938.
